Introduction

What is the best available evidence for the survival of human consciousness after permanent bodily death? For self-evident reasons, this is undoubtedly a central question for all of us. Yet, the question itself already betrays a ubiquitous but nonetheless unexamined assumption: that the postmortem survival of human consciousness isn’t - at least in principle—the expected outcome and, therefore, one needs the best possible evidence to convince oneself of it.

Bernardo Kastrup is a Dutch doctor of philosophy , computer engineering and artificial intelligence . He has worked as a scientist in the world's leading laboratories. He leads the modern revival of metaphysical idealism.

Born in Rio de Janeiro , of Danish-Portuguese descent, and based in the Netherlands , Kastrup is Executive Director of the Essentia Foundation. His work has been leading the modern revival of metaphysical idealism , the notion that reality is essentially mental .

He has a doctorate in philosophy ( ontology , philosophy of mind ) and another doctorate in computer engineering (reconfigurable computing, artificial intelligence ). As a scientist he has worked for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and Philips Research Laboratories (where the "Casimir effec" of quantum field theory was discovered ).

Expressed in detail in many scholarly articles and books, his ideas have appeared in Scientific American, the Institute of Art and Ideas , the American Philosophical Association Blog, and Big Think , among others

 

 

Bernardo Kastrup é o diretor executivo da Essentia Foundation. Seu trabalho tem liderado o renascimento moderno do idealismo metafísico, a noção de que a realidade é essencialmente mental. Ele tem um Ph.D. em filosofia (ontologia, filosofia da mente) e outro Ph.D. em engenharia da computação (computação reconfigurável, inteligência artificial). Como cientista, Bernardo trabalhou para a Organização Europeia para a Pesquisa Nuclear (CERN) e para os Laboratórios de Pesquisa Philips (onde foi descoberto o 'Efeito Casimir' da Teoria Quântica de Campos). Formuladas em detalhes em muitos trabalhos acadêmicos e livros, suas ideias foram apresentadas no 'Scientific American', no 'Institute of Art and Ideas', no 'Blog da American Philosophical Association' e no 'Big Think', entre outros.
